In winter, it’s important to always be prepared. You never know when a sudden Nor’easter may roll up and dump massive amounts of fresh or a sudden rail jam may be announced on Twitter. You heard right.

This week at Carinthia Parks at Mount Snow, it’s about being waxed and ready for rail jams at the drop of a hat. Welcome to Pop-Up Jams.

On Tuesday, December 27 and Thursday, December 29 the parks crew are randomly picking a feature in Carinthia and hosting a 45 minute jam sesh on it. There will be one jam each morning somewhere around 10-11am and one each afternoon somewhere around 1-2pm. That’s all the info you get.

Keep an eye on their Facebook and Twitter accounts for the location announcement and be ready to pounce.

Here’s the deets:

-There is no entry fee! But, you must register for this event. Registration will take place in the Carinthia lodge each morning from 8am – 9am.
-If you over sleep, yes you can register at the jam, but that will cut into your time to compete.
-Once you register you will get a little sticker to put on your pass or lift ticket. This sticker can be used at any of the Pop-Up Jams that week.
-You don’t have to register to join in, however no registration = no awesome prizes.
-It’s open to both skiers and riders!

1. His name is Day. That’s a rad first name.

2. He founded, owned and operated Kingvale Mountain in California, one of the first all-park mountains in the country.

3. He worked extensively with Johnny Knoxville and crew for the Jackass 3D movie, building snow features that grown men proceeded to wreck themselves upon.

In other words, Day Franzen is legit. And now he’s steering Carinthia Parks at Mount Snow.

Read a full interview with Day at onthesnow.com to learn all about Vermont’s newest celebrity.

And while you’re at it, watch “C The Movie”, a feature-length shred flick straight from the boys and girls who keep Carinthia’s parks populated, below.
